Summer Skin Survival
Dr Ajay Yadav
This is early march
and temperature goes on high so early year by year ,what important is to take
care of skin in summer is very much important as I always say skin is mirror of
healthy glowing skin Fortunately, your skin needn’t take the brunt of the heat
this season. We have for you, some tips that’ll help keep your skin fresh and
dewy, even as the mercury continues to stay high.the heat and humidity play
a major role in our lives, keeping us hot and bothered. Summer brings with it a
host of skin problems,Here are some of the most common summer skin problems, and how best to
prevent and relieve them.
Skin tan and burn – very common problem with skin in every summer with
sensitive patients and more often A suntan is actually the body's defence mechanism
against strong sunlight and the visible evidence of damage to the skin. Severe
sunburn results in the redness of the skin, skin peeling and sometimes itching.
Best part is get protect with sunscreens .i always advice chemical peel is one
best cosmetic procedure to removal of tann .
Acne :
Aggravation of acne (pimples) as the heat, humidity, dead skin cells and oil
tend to clog the pores thereby leading to comedones (blackheads) and then acne.
Hygiene plays an important role. Applying a 'mud-pack' once a week to absorb
the oil.
Having plenty of water and taking supplements of
Vitamin A, zinc and antioxidants are good
Prickly heat : Excessive
sweating and increased dead cell turnover blocks the sweat glands and causes a
rash-like picture commonly known as 'prickly heat' especially in the folds of
the skin where the sweat accumulates and maybe also on the the back. This leads
to itching. Having cool showers, wearing loose clothes, putting talcum powder
after a bath, applying calamine lotion on the rashes are good
Rosacea : This is
characterised by red and inflamed skin especially on the cheek, chin and frown
areas of the face. The rash can also lead to tiny boils on the cheeks and maybe
even to severe acne if left untreated Avoiding sunlight, using a soap-free face
wash and a good sunscreen, reducing stress with yoga, meditation, having an
antacid or aloe vera juice in the morning on an empty stomach.
Fungal infections of the skin : This is
very common in the hot and humid weather. The fungi thrive in the humid weather
and areas where there is less aeration as in the folds of the skin especially
in people who wear tight clothing, shoes the whole day long and synthetic
clothing. The treatment is in the form of:Having a shower more often, using an
anti-fungal powder in the body folds after a bath and applying an anti-fungal
cream at bedtime on affected areas.
Dandruff : Dandruff
is a result of over-secretion of oil on the scalp mixed with increased dead
cell turnover, sweats and the pollution around. This leads to a 'scale'
formation on the scalp which is not only unhygienic but can also lead to
hairfall, itching and eventually pimples on the forehead and back. The
treatment is in the form of:
Washing your hair often in summer. Using of hair
shampoo and conditioner is very important
Increased pigmentation : Normal
skin and skin with pigmentation problems seems to look darker when exposed to
the summer sun. This is because exposure to sun activates the melanin to rise
to the upper layers thereby increasing pigmentation.
Using a sunscreen of a good SPF 30 before going out
in sun 2-3 in the day.
Using an umbrella and sunglasses while going out in
the sun and sun visors for the car.
Taking supplements of vitamin C, folic acid and
antioxidants.
Body odour : This is a
characteristic unpleasant body smell which is not only due to increased sweat
accumulation but also due to a bacterial decomposition of the same. This could
be quite an embarrassing condition for many.
To avoid body odour :
1. Use loose, cotton clothing.
2. Have a shower 2-3 times a day.
3. Use a medicated soap especially in the body folds.
4. Use an anti-fungal powder and deodorant in the body
folds.
5. Use a fragrance on clothes rather than on the skin
to prevent pigmentation.
Skincare tips for the summer
1. Stay hydrated. Your body
tends to lose a lot of moisture in the summer, so it’s important to regularly
replenish the H2O. Drink a lot of water and liquids and your skin will stay
soft and moisturised as well.
2. Sun protection. If you can,
try and stay indoors between 11am and 3pm. That’s when the sun’s rays are the
strongest and can have an adverse effect on your skin. Also, don’t forget to
apply that all-important sunscreen 30 minutes
before you step out. If you’ve been out in the sun for a few hours, touch it up
again so you’re well protected.
3. Use a toner. It’s
important to keep your pores closed and skin cool by using a toner. Look for a
brand that suits you or try rose water. Its natural cooling properties make it
an excellent toner for the hot season.
4. Go for a water-based moisturiser. Don’t make
the mistake of skipping the moisturising routine altogether as its essential
for your skin to remain hydrated. However, if you find your regular moisturiser
too oily, go for a water-based one.
5. Ditch those aerated drinks. Most people
have the tendency to reach out for an ice cold aerated drink to quench their
thirst on a really hot day. However, it’s important to remember that these
drinks are full of sugar that is not good for your skin or your figure. Instead
drink some water, fresh lime, fresh fruit juices, aam panna (green mango drink)
or coconut water to stay hydrated. It’s also best to minimise the intake of
diuretics like alcohol and caffeine as they reduce the water from your system.
6. Cleanse your face twice a day. At least!
This is important to do even if you’ve been home all day and feel like your
skin is clean. Cleansing and moisturising your skin before sleeping is an
absolute must.
7. Exfoliate. It's so very important to
exfoliate your skin. Your body sheds skin cells at an amazing rate every
minute of every day. If you don't get rid of them, they'll just sitting
on your skin making you look dull and dry. No matter how much lotion you use,
you're never going to have glowing skin if you don't exfoliate. Grab a body
scrub and hit the shower. Gently rub your exfoliator in circular movements on
your entire body from the shoulders down (you'll want a facial exfoliator for
your face and neck) and rinse clean. Continue to do this 2-3 times a week for
year-round beautiful skin
8. Don’t like
your tan? Gram flour can also be used as a facemask to get rid
of an uneven tan. Mix it with yoghurt and a few drops of lemon and apply and
leave it on your face till it’s dry. The citrus properties of the lemon are
very effective in removing the tan.
9. Get that warm, summer glow. Papaya is
full of natural goodness and you can even use it as a homemade pack. Just mash
2 tbsp of papaya with a tsp of honey and 1 egg white. Leave the mixture on your
face for about 15 minutes and enjoy the glow you get afterwards.
10. Cool your skin. Blending
half a cucumber and 1 tbsp of yoghurt in the mixer can make another simple and
effective homemade face pack. Apply this to your face for 15 minutes and feel
completely pampered.
Its very important to take care of skin in summer with few cosmetic
procedure like facial ,skin polishing and chemical peel ,this are few procedure
which help u to maintain good skin condition.Your skin is
the “mirror of your body, which strongly reflects your inner state and body
needs”I always says it . In the case of
healthy nutrition, you will notice smooth, moist, fresh and vital skin. On the
other hand, poor nutrition and the lack of essential nutrients lead to a pale,
rough, dehydrated and irritated skin. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables,
especially those which are rich in vitamin C, which plays a major role in
keeping the skin looking healthy. Eat more oranges, melon, broccoli, and sweet
pepper.Enrich your diet with foods (green, orange and red, nuts and seeds) that
are rich in antioxidants that help in destroying the cancerous cells caused by
ultraviolet rays. Eat vitamin E-rich foods, such as almonds, walnuts, and
avocado. Vitamin E helps keep the skin moist and prevents its dehydration.
Enjoy summer
with healthy skin
